My Game Design Inspirations

Celeste

The first inspiration I want to talk about is the 2018 game Celeste. This game inspires the quality of game feel I want to achieve in my games. The smoothness and effortless feel of the character is unbeatable in my opinion. This game revolutionized the feel of a platformer, and urges me to want to focus quality of quantity when it comes to movement, and create games that feel effortless.

Sanabi

The 2021 South Korean game Sanabi revitalized my love for story telling through games via its heartbreaking family story told through pixel art and riveting gameplay. It doesn't need voice acting or realistic characters to sell its gut-wrenching story of loss and acceptance, but instead leans into its pixelated style and overly animated characters to make the player feel what's happening, rather than telling them directly. This game also has incredible feel and mechanics akin to Celeste, further creating an incredible overall experience.

Conclusion

Thus, I want to use these games and my hobbies like the One Piece card game to create experience that players can feel, both mechanically and narratively whether it is analog or digital.
